Red Nose Day £80 million total breaks records

2nd July 2009

The British public truly pulled out all the stops for Red Nose Day 2009 - raising a spectacular £80 million so far.

To have broken all previous records and reached such a high Red Nose Day total when times are incredibly tough is staggering and shows what an extraordinary country we live in.

And that’s not to mention some amazing support from partners:

  • Sainsbury’s raised over £11 million with 6.8 million red noses sold.
  • TK Maxx raised over £3.3 million through the sale of exclusive Red Nose Day T-shirts designed by Stella McCartney.
  • ..Oh, and the BT Red Nose Climb up Kilimanjaro raised over £3.4 million including £1.8 million from Radio 1 and £1 million in £5 text donations following the documentary!

As Lenny Henry put it: “Everyone across the UK - whether in schools, offices, homes or the blummin’ pub - should be immensely proud of how much they’ve raised for Red Nose Day.”

Already, Comic Relief has invested £6.3m of the money raised from Red Nose Day to help protect over one million people in Africa from malaria.

Comic Relief will spend all the money raised through Red Nose Day 09 to help extremely poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and Africa turn their lives around.

The lowdown:

  • The TV audience peaked at 12.7million viewers and a 52% audience share peak for Comic Relief: Funny for Money on Friday 13 March
  • There were 2.5million unique visits to rednoseday.com
  • An extraordinary £7.8 million raised through £1 and £5 text donations
  • 410 celebrities were involved in the Red Nose Day campaign

It’s not too late to pay in any cash you raised this Red Nose Day.
