Target Tuberculosis
TB is the primary cause of death in the majority of AIDS related deaths, yet it is treatable at relatively low cost, especially if detected early.
The project, with support from Comic Relief, is helping poor people access diagnosis and treatment for TB and HIV through their local clinics. Direct support is given at home to people with TB and HIV, in the form of medicines, foodstuffs, help with transport to health facilities, and practical and moral support from the network of community volunteers. Caregivers and orphans also receive household items, food supplies and training in small business, with access to credit provided. Mass health education activities are taking place to build awareness and understanding of TB and HIV within the community, which will also help to reduce the stigma that surrounds this illness.
