Africa Educational Trust
After years of conflict, Somalia has remained one of the least developed countries in the world with low literacy rates across the population. Comic Relief is helping to improve adult literacy and numeracy through radio programmes and classes, to some of the most disadvantaged people in all regions of Somalia. Those benefiting include internally displaced persons, women and girls, people with disabilities and pastoralist communities. In addition to literacy, the project is providing education on basic life skills and human rights, small grants for community education activities, and disability awareness exercises. Through this work there will be an improvement in the lives of thousands of individuals as they take advantage of education and employment opportunities, play a more active role in their communities, and gain a better understanding of their rights.
