Street and Working Children

Childhope UK

In Bangladesh, many children living and working on the streets are vulnerable to physical and mental abuse. For many of them, especially girls, sex work also leaves them open to sexual abuse, as well as related health problems as a result. Trafficking of girls remains commonplace, and along with the trauma of their situation, children face stigma and discrimination which adds to their suffering. As a result, drug abuse, such as glue sniffing and alcohol is common. Over a 5 year period, this project will directly benefit over 1,100 street children, who have been abused and exploited as sex workers in the city streets of Dhaka and Chittagong. Girls in particular will be prioritised for protection, and 3 drop-in centres will offer shelter 24 hours a day.
