Women's Counselling Centre
Too often, those affected by domestic violence don’t receive, or don’t seek, counselling for their experiences until later in life. The Women’s Counselling Centre classifies 20% of their adult clients as domestic violence victims, many of whose whole lives have been blighted by abuse which they experienced in their childhood. Comic Relief is supporting the Women's Counselling Centre to offer free, professional counselling for young people aged 13-21 who have direct experience of domestic violence. This project gives young people the one-to-one support they need to help steer themselves towards a healthier and happier future. Comic Relief is also helping this organisation to work with local teachers and youth club leaders to help them support young people to cope with and manage relationships of their own.
