Age Concern Gwent
Many older people who live in institutionalised care homes experience feelings of loss and isolation. They often feel that there’s no one for them to talk to about their concerns or to represent them if they have problems with their standard of care. One way to remedy this is to provide advocates – people who go into care homes to talk to, and voice the concerns of, older people.
Comic Relief is supporting Age Concern Gwent to provide an advocacy scheme for older people living in the 21 privately owned care homes in Caerphilly. Advocacy workers are providing independent and confidential services to older people living in, or considering a move to, a private care home within the Caerphilly borough, enabling them to be involved in the decisions that affect their lives and helping them to promote and maintain their independence.
