BATIAS Independent Advocay Service
Older people with learning disabilities are one of the most vulnerable groups of older people in the UK. They face discrimination, have low self-esteem and need support to make their voices heard. BATIAS provides advocacy support to people with learning disabilities who live in South Essex so specially trained workers are available to speak up on their behalf. Comic Relief is helping BATIAS address the specific needs of older people with learning disabilities by developing 3 self advocacy groups. These groups will meet on a weekly basis to provide peer support, develop listening and speaking up skills and enable older people with learning disabilities to voice their concerns and fears in a non-judgemental environment.
