Threshold Women’s Mental Health Initiative
Brighton and its surrounding areas are seeing increasing numbers of refugees and asylum seekers; Gatwick particularly as it is a port of entry into the UK for many asylum seekers. Many of the women who arrive in this country have experienced horrifying trauma, including physical and mental abuse, torture and rape, in their country of origin but are unable to access any kind of support due to language barriers, levels of distress or simply a lack of services able to offer structured support.
With a helping hand from Comic Relief, Threshold Women’s Mental Health Initiative is operating a counselling service for this group of women to enable them to address the trauma they have been through.
