U-Turn
U-Turn is a project that reaches out to adult women sex workers on the streets of Newham and Tower Hamlets. Young women can end up being exploited through prostitution for a number of reasons, such as their own or 'boyfriend's' drug use or because they were abused as children. They are at risk of violence and health problems and many are homeless. U-Turn has recently opened a Women's Centre and, with Comic Relief’s help, is providing specialist help to young people being abused through prostitution. The project is now reaching out to young women at night on the streets and giving them information, advice, health care and support so that they gain the confidence and self worth they need to escape this destructive way of life.
