Fern Britton’s Special Visit

On Monday, Fern Britton went on a visit to the Comic Relief funded Centrepoint Vauxhall project, which is a hostel for homeless young people.

Centrepoint and Comic Relief have a long history together.  One of our first ever grants was to Centrepoint to buy a washing machine for one of its hostels. We have now given them over 14 grants totalling over a £1 million.

Our current grant pays for workers to support homeless young people with mental health issues, from depression to post traumatic stress disorder and schizophrenia.

Fern met three residents - Jason, David, and Liam who talked about their experiences of being homeless and how Centrepoint is supporting them to move forward.

“Centrepoint is a great organisation for young people and I think everyone should get involved for Red Nose Day.” said Jason, 21.

Another resident, Liam, said; “Before I came here, I was sleeping rough. Centrepoint has given me my independence and a place to stay. Staff helped me go to college and now I’m getting things back on track.

Fern had a great personality, she put us at ease and we had a laugh together!”
