See Africa Differently
19th February 2010Let’s celebrate Africa! Home of 54 diverse countries, it’s definitely a big ole place that’s worth getting to know. See Africa Differently is a year-round campaign that tells the under-reported good news from Africa. We talk about the continent in a positive way, bringing you the most interesting news on African culture, entertainment, development, politics, sports and business. We want to shout about the fact that aid is working – and Africa is on the rise.
Get talking about Africa: Our website flashes fascinating facts across the top - all short enough to share on Twitter instantly. For example, you might discover that Nigeria’s ‘Nollywood’ produces more films every year than Hollywood. Tweet one now – and give qikipedia a run for their money.
Follow us on Twitter where we run regular Africa-related competitions – recent prizes include tickets to the MOBOs, football tickets and your choice of items from the ASOS Africa range. We also plan to give you the opportunity to interview your favourite African role models via Twitter.
Like us on Facebook where we recently gave one competition winner an all expenses paid experience of a lifetime when she visited Malawi’s Lake of Stars music festival – and reported back on our behalf.
Watch and rate our films written and directed by Richard Ayoade of The IT Crowd and The Mighty Boosh on YouTube and see some surprising pics on Flickr.
Our website showcases the African angle of things you’re already interested in – from food and fashion to plays and politics, there’s something for everyone. You’ll also find content which surprises you about Africa – under-reported progress on gender equality for example.
