What's it all about?
Trade connects us with millions of people across the world who produce the things we buy and use every day. But not everyone gets a fair deal from it. Many farmers in developing countries, who grow crops like the cocoa in chocolate, don't earn enough to pay for the things that we take for granted, like feeding their families, educating their children and paying for healthcare.
Fair trade is a different way of doing things...
Fair Trade is not about charity. It's about paying a fair price for the products which we use, eat and wear. It ensures that you get top quality goods and the people who produce them get paid fairly. It's a practical solution to many of the problems that keep the world's poorest people in poverty.
..and it's growing every day!
There are now over 75 Fair Trade products on sale in the UK including chocolate, tea, coffee, honey, nuts, bananas and fruit juice. Fair Trade means that you can change the world at the check out. A long term vision
Comic Relief is also constantly looking for other long-term solutions to the bigger problems that affect the world's poorest people. Fair Trade is one of these solutions, because it enables poor farmers to build themselves a better future and guarantees them longer term security.
That's why we've always supported projects across Africa that help to make fair trade a reality.
We think Fair Trade is a good way to change the world, but in order to work, Fair Trade needs shoppers in the UK (that's YOU!) to think about the choice you make too. Through your stupendous shopping power, you can show you really care about poor farmers getting a fair deal.
The Fairtrade Mark is awarded to products in the UK by the Fairtrade Foundation and shows that the farmers and producers in the developing world whose coffee or cocoa beans go into there products are being paid a fair price for their hard work. Click here to find out more...
