Trustees
The board of Trustees is the main policy-making body of Comic Relief who have the power to take strategic and management decisions relating to the company in the same way as the Board of Directors of a commercial company (but with the additional responsibilities of charity trustees). The board meets 8 times a year.
The Trustees are responsible for distributing the grants funds of Comic Relief. This is done with the assistance of expert committees (UK and International Grants Committees). Through these committees and the executive, the Trustees are in a position to take informed decisions on grant making.

After graduating from the University of Oxford Alec became National Organiser of Britain’s newest political party, The SDP, in the 1980s. He subsequently took his organisational skills into other areas as Events Director to the City of London and as Chief Executive of the Shakespeare Globe Trust. Alec has also had experience of working with many of Britain’s leading charities as Head of Communications for Chapter One Consultants.
In 1994 Alec’s commitment to and interest in sport took him to The Football Association where he had a lead role in the organisation of Euro 96. After six years involved with football he became the Government’s first Director of Sport.
Campaigning has always been a central theme in Alec’s career and in 2004 he was recruited by the BBC to lead the Corporation’s Charter Review campaign. With that work successfully completed Alec took his current position as Head of BBC OUTREACH.
