Comic Relief and M∙A∙C AIDS Fund, the charitable arm of M∙A∙C Cosmetics, joined forces and resources to fund innovative approaches to fighting HIV and AIDS, and raise awareness of its continuing impact.
Although globally, the number of new HIV cases is declining each year, HIV and AIDS still present a major challenge. In 2015 there were over 36 million people living with HIV, 70% of whom live in sub-Saharan Africa. In the UK, more than 100,000 people are currently estimated to be living with HIV, making it one of the fastest growing serious health conditions in this country.
Responding to this challenge, in 2017 we created a three-year £2 million programme to provide grants to organisations working with some of the most vulnerable and marginalised young people across the UK, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Organisations we have supported have the direct reach and deep expertise on the issues.
Our grants have focussed on improving the quality of life of people living with HIV and AIDS, and funding innovative digital approaches to increase prevention, care and access to treatment.
Since 2017, we are proud to have supported the National AIDS Trust, SXT Health CIC, Yorkshire MESMAC, Positive East, Terrence Higgins Trust, Saving Lives, Prison Radio Association, SXT Health CIC, Metro Centre, Children’s Radio Foundation, Restless Development Zimbabwe, Mothers2Mothers, and the International HIV/AIDS Alliance.
