In Luuka, Uganda, pregnant women and newborn babies face many challenges, some of which cost them their lives.
This project will improve care for women and newborns by working with communities and with health centres.
Community volunteers will visit pregnant women at home and encourage them to go to health centres for antenatal care and to give birth to their babies. They will show videos to communities on the danger signs in pregnancy and what to do if they spot them.
Pregnant women considered to be high risk will be a particular focus. Equipment and supplies will be provided to health facilities.
Health staff will be mentored and trained in newborn care. They will also be trained in recording maternal and newborn deaths.
When you donate to Comic Relief you’re supporting vulnerable people and communities in the UK and internationally. Our vision is to create a just world free from poverty and we’re doing this by funding amazing organisations doing amazing things.
