Apple Pay introduced at Comic Relief

11th May 2017

Today we are proud to announce that Comic Relief will be to the first major TV charity appeal to provide their supporters the option of donating with Apple Pay. Viewers of Red Nose Day, taking place on Friday 24th March will now be presented with a wider range of options when making an online donation.

Zenon Hannick, Chief Technology Officer at Comic Relief said: “We are really excited to be offering our supporters the chance to donate using Apple Pay during Red Nose Day on March 24th. We are confident making a donation to Comic Relief will be even easier, helping us raise more money to help and support vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK and some of the world’s poorest communities.”

Security and privacy is at the core of Apple Pay. When you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorised with a one-time unique dynamic security code.

Apple Pay is easy to set up and users will continue to receive all of the rewards and benefits offered by credit and debit cards. In stores, Apple Pay works with iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later, and Apple Watch.

Online shopping in apps and on websites accepting Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to manually fill out lengthy account forms or repeatedly type in shipping and billing information. When paying for goods and services on the go in apps or Safari, Apple Pay works with iPhone 6 and later, iPhone SE, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 3 and later. You can also use Apple Pay in Safari on any Mac introduced in or after 2012 running macOS Sierra and confirm the payment with iPhone 6 or later or Apple Watch, or with Touch ID on the new MacBook Pro.

Comic Relief is just one of the charities announcing that their supporters can donate with Apply Pay. Other charities ActionAid UK, Alzheimer's Society, British Heart Foundation, British Red Cross, Cancer Research UK, Concern Worldwide (UK), DEC, Marie Curie, Oxfam, (RED), RNIB, RNLI, RSPB, RSPCA, Scope, Sightsavers, The Royal British Legion, Unicef UK, VSO, WaterAid, and WWF-UK have all enabled Apple Pay to help raise money in an easy, secure and private way to pay that’s fast and convenient.
