Comic Relief's Kilimanjaro climbers see the net result

In early 2009, a whole team of brave celebrities climbed the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro to raise cash for Red Nose Day 2009. Not only did they reach the summit, they raised £3.5 million in the process.

Nine months later five of the celebrity climbers - Ben Shephard, Chris Moyles, Fearne Cotton, Gary Barlow and Kimberley Walsh – went back to Uganda to see for themselves how some of that cash is helping to fight malaria there.

As Africa’s biggest killer, malaria is a disease that claims a child’s life every 30 seconds across the continent. Watch this short clip to see how the Kili team are helping to tackle the spread of this devastating disease:

As you can see, the intrepid celebrities helped to distribute half a million mosquito nets in Uganda, and witness firsthand how such a simple item can save lives.

Gary Barlow said: "Climbing Kilimanjaro was harder than any of us could have ever imagined, but being here in Uganda and helping to hand out the nets makes all the altitude sickness, muscle pain and exhaustion completely worth it. Malaria is one of the world’s most serious yet preventable diseases. To know that these mosquito nets will make a real difference to these people’s lives makes me feel honoured to be part of this and the achievement all the more great. A massive thank you to the British public for their incredible and generous support and for helping to make this happen."
