Throughout the past 40 years we've been helping projects here in the UK and around the world to provide people with basic needs, advice, shelter and safety when they’re facing the hardest of times...

...BUT our brilliant partners also help to build hope, strength, confidence and communities in some more unexpected ways too.

People met.  Stories heard.  Tears shed.  Laughs shared.  Connections made.  Lifechanging friendships built.

The power of human connection, kindness and friendship – at the core of so many of the projects we support – can sometimes leave a mark that’s even more meaningful and lasting.  Because friendship doesn’t just lift spirits, it has the power to change lives.

At Comic Relief we're celebrating International Friendship Day all this week and shining a light on some of the incredible friendships that have been found in the most unexpected places.

Just like AJ and Rachel did...

Despite growing up in divided areas of Northern Ireland overshadowed by the Troubles, AJ and Rachel are now best friends. But they wouldn’t have met if it wasn’t for their shared love of basketball and Comic Relief funded project PeacePlayers, raising them up to be young leaders and promoting mutual respect through sport.

Their story of joy and hope will definitely put a smile on your face – check it out!

Give the gift of friendship today

A donation to Comic Relief this International Friendship Day could support incredible projects which help children be happier, families stronger, women safer, communities prouder and millions of lives fairer.
