Nothing like a Dame as Ludo makes it home

12th May 2017

After two-and-a-half extremely tough, rain-drenched, months, dedicated fundraiser Ludo Bennett-Jones has finally completed his epic sailing challenge to raise money for both Sport Relief and The Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust.

The twenty-one year old keen sailor returned to East Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, today where he first set off on Saturday 28th April for his 2,500 mile circumnavigation of the coastline of Great Britain. And there to greet him was none-other than former international yachtswoman Dame Ellen MacArthur.

Sailing in a two handed 16ft Wayfarer dinghy sponsored by BT, Ludo is now the youngest and fastest person to have completed this unique challenge and has broken two-world records as a result.

An accomplished sailor Ludo has demonstrated enormous determination and great skill to complete his task in what can only be described as some of the worst weather conditions Britain has experienced in recent years.

Traversing the Bristol Channel, one of the UK’s busiest shipping lanes, rounding Cape Wrath, one of the most unpredictable corners of the Scottish Isles and visiting all four UK countries in three consecutive days in May, are just some of the extraordinary highlights from his journey.
